Set up your Limp Mode base by collecting the starting toolbox, OBD reader, backpack, and supplies, then use the Build Desk to place a two-post lift, storage, lighting, and any other workshop equipment inside the fence. The two-post Car Lift is the most useful first workshop purchase or placement because it lets you work on the underside, remove wheels, swap engines without a crane, weld, drain fuel, and repair vehicles. Use the bed to save the world after arranging the base.
Collect the starting equipment
In a newly created world, the toolbox, OBD reader, backpack, and supplies are already waiting at the base. Take these items because they are placed only once. The toolbox is especially important for workshop work and for using an engine crane away from a lift.
Enter Build Mode
- Go to the
Build Deskand openBUILD MODE. - Choose an item from the catalog. The catalog has tabs, a search function, and 3D previews.
- Move the item inside the fenced base area, including the house, and place it when the preview is green.
Building is currently free. A red preview means that the item is blocked or does not fit. The placement grid is 0.25 m. The main controls are:
| Action | Control |
|---|---|
| Place | Left mouse button |
| Rotate | Mouse wheel |
| Change height | Shift + mouse wheel |
| Remove | X |
| Cancel | Esc |
Choose the essential workshop equipment
Two-post Car Lift
Place the Car Lift from the Workshop tab when you want the most flexible repair station. Its wheels hang free, so you can swap whole wheels and underbody parts without a car jack. It also supports engine swaps without an engine crane, welding, fuel-tank draining, and repairs. Interact with the lift to raise or lower the vehicle. It will not lower while someone is standing underneath it.
The lift also exposes setup options such as ride height, springs and dampers, camber, toe, caster, track width, steering lock, tire pressure, and wheel size. Many suspension adjustments require the relevant adjustable component, such as coilovers or adjustable camber arms. The Drive tab includes brake bias and, when an AWD kit is fitted, AWD split.
Four Post Lift
The Four Post Lift keeps the vehicle standing on its tires. It is useful when you want a raised vehicle without the wheels hanging free, but the two-post lift is the better initial choice for broad repair access.
Storage and lighting
The green Storage Chest is shared by everyone in the world and holds 400 L of ordinary items. It does not accept used car parts or partially filled containers. The orange Central Storage is personal: each player sees their own contents in every orange box, and its capacity can be expanded to 3200 L.
Use the wall light switch to turn the base lights on or off. Lamps placed in Build Mode follow the switch. The bed, Build Desk, Phone Booth, Wardrobe, and Storage Chest cannot be removed, although they can be moved. Central Storage and Car Slots are also movable but cannot be removed.
Add an engine crane or dyno
An engine crane is found or bought rather than built. With the toolbox and crane in your bag, you can remove, install, or swap an engine anywhere; the crane deploys at the bonnet and returns to your bag afterward. To create a stationary engine work area, right-click the crane item and place it on the floor. Use its radial menu for HANG ENGINE, WORK ON ENGINE, TAKE ENGINE OFF, or PICK UP CRANE.
A Dyno can be placed from Build Mode. Drive onto it from the ramp end and start it by interacting with it or using its radial menu. It shows power and torque curves, peak kW and PS values, and the previous run for comparison. The test consumes fuel, generates heat, and adds wear, so it will not start if the vehicle is on a lift, the engine is dead, or the tank is empty. Dyno curves are not saved.
Save the completed setup
The bed is the base save point. Choose Save only to save immediately, or Sleep to sleep and save. Sleeping requires tiredness and no nearby zombies. Base sleeping is free. In co-op, the run starts at the host's base, only the host can build and save, and every player must be at the bed when saving.
