To transfer an Enshrouded world and character save, first turn off Steam Cloud for the game, then copy the required world and character save files into C:\Users\<User>\Saved Games\Enshrouded. World saves can be identified by 3ad85aea in the filename, while character saves contain characters. Back up your existing saves before replacing or combining anything.
Find the existing Steam Cloud saves
When Steam Cloud is enabled, Enshrouded's files are stored in the Steam userdata directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<Steam ID>\1203620\remote
Replace C: with the drive where Steam is installed. The <Steam ID> directory is the numbered folder for your Steam account. If several numbered folders are present, open them and look for the one containing the 1203620 folder. This number identifies Enshrouded's Steam application directory.
Identify the two save types
| Save | How to identify it |
|---|---|
| World | The filename contains 3ad85aea. |
| Character | The filename contains characters. |
Use these filename markers when deciding which files to copy. A world supplied by another player can be used as the world portion of the transfer, while your own character files can be retained for your character data.
Move the files to local storage
- Disable Steam Cloud for Enshrouded before making the transfer. This prevents the cloud-saved location from being the active source while you are placing local files.
- Make a separate backup copy of your current cloud saves, especially the files in the
remotefolder. Keep this backup outside the save folders so it is not confused with the files being imported. - Open the local save directory:
C:\Users\<User>\Saved Games\Enshrouded. Replace<User>with your Windows account name and change the drive letter if Windows is installed elsewhere. - Copy your character save files and the required world save files into that local Enshrouded folder. For a third-party world, this means placing the other player's world files together with the character files you want to use.
If the local folder is missing
Start Enshrouded and continue only until the main menu appears, then exit the game. According to the supplied save-location procedure, this creates the local Saved Games\Enshrouded folder when it does not already exist. After closing the game, place the selected files in that folder.
Start the game after the transfer
Once the files are in the local directory and Steam Cloud remains disabled, launch Enshrouded. If you need to restore the previous setup, close the game and use the backup you made before the transfer. The relevant locations are therefore the Steam Cloud remote folder for the original files and the Windows Saved Games\Enshrouded folder for the local files used by the transfer.
