To make Scam With Your Friends send Qwen voice generation to the GPU, back up Scam With Your Friends_Data/Managed/Assembly-CSharp.dll, then change the single byte at file offset 0x112E35 from 06 to 17. This forces the game to request the Vulkan backend, identified as Vulkan0, instead of selecting the CPU path.

What this fix changes

The game starts Qwen in a separate process named QwenTtsWorker.exe. That worker can use either the CPU or the Vulkan GPU backend. The game normally decides which backend name to send while checking hardware eligibility. On systems where it sends CPU, setting an environment variable alone does not override the game’s request reliably. The byte edit changes the condition used for that decision so the game always passes Vulkan0 to the worker.

Apply the one-byte patch

  1. Close the game and make a copy of the original Assembly-CSharp.dll. Keep that backup somewhere outside the game’s installation folder.
  2. Open Scam With Your Friends_Data/Managed/Assembly-CSharp.dll in a binary or hex editor.
  3. Go to hexadecimal offset 0x112E35.
  4. Replace the byte 06 with 17, without changing nearby bytes.
  5. Save the file and launch the game. Qwen should now be requested with the backend name Vulkan0.

Important editing warning

Change only the byte at the specified offset. Do not replace the nearby conditional branch instruction. The relevant logic uses the existing branch together with a value loaded from the edited byte: changing 06 to 17 makes the condition always true. Replacing the branch itself with an unconditional branch leaves an unwanted value on the evaluation stack. The .NET runtime can then reject the method with InvalidProgramException, leaving the game stuck during the Qwen check.

Do not rely on GGML_BACKEND alone

If the worker receives CPU from the game, forcing GGML_BACKEND=Vulkan0 can make the worker fail rather than redirecting it. The worker may report that Vulkan0 is unavailable and that only CPU exists. The backend name must match exactly, and an accidental trailing space can also invalidate the value. The patch is intended to make the game and worker agree on Vulkan0.

After applying the fix

  • The first Qwen request may time out after about 10 seconds and fall back to the game’s default PocketTTS voice for that session. Restarting the game may be necessary before Qwen works.
  • GPU use can be substantial because the game and Qwen share the same graphics device. The reported observation was approximately 5.6 GB of 6 GB of VRAM in use.
  • The change is an unofficial manual assembly edit. Keep the backup so you can restore the original file if the game fails to start or Qwen becomes unavailable.
  • Game updates and Steam file-integrity checks can replace the DLL and remove the patch. If that happens, the original file must be backed up again before repeating the edit.
