Overview

Dylan Faden is not alone out there. Zoe operates his comms from the Watchtower, Arish develops strategy at the Field Office, and Langston continues calling long after he leaves it. This guide charts every named character and all six Resonant bosses across Manhattan's zones, showing who is waiting where.

Dylan remains under the FBC chain of command throughout, and that structure is the simplest way to track everyone. Field agents such as Zoe and Arish conduct operations from permanent outposts, civilians like Heidi and Dombrow appear wherever the crisis stranded them, and Resonants—the six major entities connected to each zone's Hedron activity—protect fixed arenas that require access to be earned. Use the zone headings below as your map. After clearing a zone's main story beat, the character connected to it is generally fixed there for the rest of the playthrough.

Downtown

Downtown is where the crisis begins, and it is also where you encounter your first Resonant without seeking it out.

Character
Emily Pope
Where to Find
Inside the Oldest House, at the beginning of "Welcome to Manhattan"
Role
Acting FBC Director while Jesse Faden remains missing

Character
The Artist (Resonant)
Where to Find
Triggers automatically during Orientation
Role

Pope keeps the Bureau together here, filling in for Jesse until the story states otherwise. The Artist appears immediately afterward—not as an optional side fight, but as the game's method of teaching how Resonant encounters work.

Central

Central serves as Dylan's home base for most of the campaign, which means more named characters gather here than anywhere else.

Character
Zoe De Vera
Where to Find
The Watchtower
Role
Dylan's handler; gives out recurring side quests

Character
Arish
Where to Find
The Field Office
Role
Explains the Hiss tremor plan in "Arish's Briefing," the 3rd main mission

Character
Field Office greeter
Where to Find
Just outside the Field Office entrance
Role
Unnamed NPC who unlocks FBC Taskboard tasks

Character
Langston
Where to Find
The Field Office, later a cat feeder after he relocates to a Sinkhole apartment
Role
Begins "Panopticon Service Request"

Character
Dr. Florez
Where to Find
A Field Hospital intake tent
Role
Examines Heidi and Hannah during "Carbon Copy"

Character
The Deserter (Resonant)
Where to Find
Patterned Factory
Role
Clear the factory, then deactivate the basement furnace

Zoe brought Dylan out of his coma and remains on comms for nearly the entire campaign instead of appearing in one isolated scene. Arish only appears after "Evacuation Procedures" is complete, so he will not be at the Field Office beforehand. Langston's apartment relocation is the unusual case: after the story places him in the Sinkhole, he continues speaking to Dylan through a cat feeder, a strange but genuine detail.

Evacuation Zone

This is the quietest zone for living NPCs. Most of what appears here is connected to Langston's storyline, and none of it brings good news.

Character
Dombrow
Where to Find
The Sinkhole, near an apartment platform
Role
Found deceased during "Into the Valley of Death"

Character
Alfred
Where to Find
The Sinkhole, apartment section 5
Role
Langston's cat

Character
Maria
Where to Find
A lower Sinkhole chamber, beyond a red-cracked wall
Role
An invisible Hiss miniboss

Maria is not someone you speak with. She is a battle concealed at the end of Langston's questline, and the Sinkhole's layout makes her easy to miss unless you are searching for that cracked wall.

West Incursion Zone

There is one major stop here, and reaching it requires a traversal upgrade rather than a conversation.

Character
The Dancer (Resonant)
Where to Find
Theater Hall
Role
Unlocks after the Parking Garage Incursion Fault and the Shift ability

Do not go directly to the Theater. Shift must be obtained first, and the Incursion Fault is the quest that awards it.

The Park

The Park contains the game's most layered character story: two sisters, with one of them remaining human only briefly.

Character
Heidi
Where to Find
A partially submerged shack west of the FBC Base
Role
Starts "Carbon Copy" by asking Dylan to locate Hannah

Character
Hannah
Where to Find
Heidi's Old Apartment (#11), then the Park Factory as "Mold Hannah"
Role
Heidi's twin, transformed by Mold exposure

Character
The Collective (Resonant)
Where to Find
Mold Gateway, café entrance
Role
Requires consuming four Mold samples first

Heidi's quest and the Collective's gate both use the same Mold mechanic, so clearing Mold samples for one generally prepares you for the other. The apartment visit with Hannah occurs early. The confrontation at the Park Factory is an entirely different fight after Mold has taken over.

Underpass

There are no named allies down here, only the Physicist waiting at the top of a very unusual building.

Character
The Physicist (Resonant)
Where to Find
The Spire, at the top of the Astral Plane
Role
Requires three Astral Keys to open the final door

Gather every key before climbing. The Spire does not allow you to bypass a locked door, so missing one means traveling back down.

The Unknown

The final zone turns the Bureau's own people into the obstacle, rather than using only the enemy.

Character
FBC Rangers
Where to Find
A warehouse, street checkpoint, courtyard, and rooftop helipad
Role
Squad in distress during "The Unknown Resonant"

Character
The Co-Director (Resonant)
Where to Find
The Patterned Field Office rooftop helipad
Role
Hardest fight in the game, reached through the Gravity Well in sector 6

Save the Rangers along the way, since some are turned against you once the Co-Director fight begins. Arish checks in by radio immediately before the elevator doors open, signaling that the arena is only seconds away.

Several names in this guide—including Heidi, Hannah, Dr. Florez, and the FBC Rangers—come from the earliest wave of guide coverage, since Manhattan opened its gates only a couple weeks ago. Consider those locations accurate for Update 1.4, with only minor refinements expected as more players confirm them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who is Dylan's radio contact throughout the game?
Zoe De Vera. She performs Dylan's handler duties from the Watchtower in Central and remains in his ear for nearly the whole campaign.

Q. Where do I find Arish?
At the Field Office in Central, after completing "Evacuation Procedures." He begins "Arish's Briefing," the third main mission.

Q. Why does Langston talk through a cat feeder?
The story moves him into a Sinkhole apartment in the Evacuation Zone partway through his questline, making the feeder his only functioning comms device from that point onward.

Q. How many Resonant bosses are there, and where are they?
Six: the Artist in Downtown, the Deserter at the Patterned Factory in Central, the Dancer at the Theater in the West Incursion Zone, the Collective at the Mold Gateway in the Park, the Physicist atop the Spire in the Underpass, and the Co-Director on the Patterned Field Office rooftop in the Unknown.

Q. What's the fastest way to reach the Co-Director?
Take the "The Unknown Resonant" side mission, begin at the Gravity Well in Unknown sector 6, and proceed through the Rangers rescue sequence to the Patterned Field Office elevator.

Q. Does Jesse Faden appear as a character I can find?
Not as a located NPC. She is mentioned as Dylan's missing sister and contact figure, but Remedy has confirmed that she is not a playable or directly encountered character this time around.
