In AI Olympius, the Paleontological pedestal requires 16 bones. The bones are split between surface deposits and two mines. The surface group is marked 1–3 on the numbered map, while markers 4 and 5 are inside the Ancient Tomb mine and the Northeast Mine. Some bones are buried under ore. You can break ore with a multitool, or destroy empty ore with detonating missiles or missiles. Copper, quartz, and silica must be mined rather than merely exploded. The Northeast Mine contains a renewable bone spot that can be reused to replace a lost bone, or farmed repeatedly by re-entering the island.
Prerequisites
- A multitool for clearing debris and mining ore.
- Detonating missiles or missiles if you want to blast empty ore.
- Access to the surface map markers 1, 2, 3.
- Access to the Ancient Tomb mine, marker 4, and the Northeast Mine, marker 5.
- Optionally, a portal for quick return trips to the renewable bone site.
Surface bone locations: markers 1, 2, 3
Start with the three surface markers. Marker 1 is one bone placed on a pedestal. Two more bones at the same area are covered by nearby ore. Clear or mine the ore to reach them. If the ore is empty, an explosion can destroy it; if it contains copper, quartz, or silica, mine it instead so the resource is not wasted.
Marker 2 is simpler: one bone is lying openly on the surface. Pick it up directly.
Marker 3 hides two more bones under ore. Clear the covering ore to collect both.
Ancient Tomb mine: marker 4
The mine at marker 4 resembles an ancient tomb and has main left and right turns. All bones in this mine are on the left side. Follow these steps:
- Go downstairs to the left.
- Find a small stone pile. One bone is under it.
- On the same platform, turn around and locate a tunnel containing quartz ore. Another bone is under that quartz ore.
- Return to the main stairs and go deeper to the end.
- Find the pile there, which hides two more bones.
That gives four bones from the Ancient Tomb mine: one under the small stone pile, one under the quartz ore, and two in the final pile.
Northeast Mine: marker 5
The Northeast Mine entrance is blocked by debris, so clear it with a multitool first. The mine has two main ways; all bones are in the bottom way. It also has left and right paths. Start on the left.
- Follow the left path until you reach a blocked way. A bone is under the rockpile.
- Go back to the fork and take the right path this time.
- You will find a pit. At the bottom, look for rocks with another bone underneath them.
- At the bottom of the pit is a passage. Follow it to the end.
- At the end, find ore with the last few bones underneath.
This stop contains multiple bones, including the last few needed for the full set. One bone at this spot is renewed each time the player visits the Island, which covers the situation where a bone has been lost for any reason.
Renewable bone and repeated collections
The renewable bone is at the end of the Northeast Mine section, in the passage at the bottom of the pit. If you want to collect another full set of bones, you can revisit this spot 16 times. A portal is recommended for quick access when farming this spot, because repeated trips to the island are otherwise slow.
Quick reference
| Marker | Area | Bone placement |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Surface | One on a pedestal; two under nearby ore |
| 2 | Surface | One lying openly |
| 3 | Surface | Two under ore |
| 4 | Ancient Tomb mine | One under a small stone pile on the left; one under quartz ore on the same platform; two in the final pile deeper along the main stairs |
| 5 | Northeast Mine | One under a rockpile on the left path; one under rocks at the bottom of the right-path pit; last few under ore at the end of the pit passage; includes the renewable bone |
Notes on ore and equipment
Ore type matters. Empty ore can be destroyed with detonating missiles or missiles. Ore containing copper, quartz, or silica should be mined with a multitool to recover the resource. In the Ancient Tomb mine, the bone under quartz ore is a specific example where mining is the correct action. In the Northeast Mine, the final bones are also under ore, so clear it carefully.
If you lose a bone, you do not need to restart the entire collection. The renewable bone in the Northeast Mine is available on each visit to the Island. That makes the mine a backup source for a missing piece, and also the farming location for additional complete sets.
